I know that I’m not the only person who could feel the silence and tension through their TV as Adrien Brody read Michael B. Jordan’s name out loud during the Oscars.

I also know that I can’t be the only person who had the same feeling watching Braylon Mullins, a 19-year-old from the University of Connecticut, hit the game-winning shot to help his team advance to the Final Four in March Madness.

I yelped! I rewatched that shot 1,785 times!

Did you see the one of their head coach head-butting a ref?! Iconic!

I certainly can’t imagine what it must’ve felt like to be a UConn fan during that moment.

Watching your team advance to the Final Four is one thing, but watching them advance after a dramatic comeback and a game-winning 3 is hard to comprehend.

So it made sense to me when I saw a tweet from a user on X named Patrick Clapp who shared that one of their friends tore his Achilles celebrating that photo finish.

The tweet went viral and, of course, I had to talk to him about the whole ordeal and find out how his friend is doing now.

I love March Madness.

The upsets! The game-winners! The viral crying piccolo girl!

With the tournament underway, there’s already been a few shocking finishes, like VCU’s insane comeback over UNC and High Point University upsetting No. 5 seed Wisconsin.

I think one of the main reasons High Point won was the fact that the university chartered a jet to fly students on, so they could cheer on the team as they advanced for the first time ever to the round of 32.

The! Vibes! Are! So! Important!

For those who aren’t familiar, High Point is a private university in North Carolina where tuition and room & board for the 2026-2027 year will run you $71,429.

Perks for students include free laundry, free airport shuttle (if you wear a High Point t-shirt), an airplane cabin interior to mock what it could be like sitting next to an executive on a plane, and more.

Another perk for students apparently included a seat on the jet to Portland to watch their team beat Wisconsin.

A TikTok went viral from Sofia Nicastro, a freshman at High Point studying interior design, who was on the jet.

There’s A Track & Field Scandal Brewing

I don’t follow D3 track & field that closely, but I was intrigued to read about this story.

After Rowan University’s Seth Clevenger swept this year’s events at the Indoor Championships, his competitors left the podium in protest while they were posing for photos.

For context, Clevenger previously attended Iowa State before transferring to Rowan University.

According to an investigation from LetsRun.com, a few of Clevenger’s former Iowa State teammates alleged that he admitted to using banned substances in the fall of 2025 (with text message screenshots and packages of the banned substance in the fridge to back up their claims).

Clevenger posted an Instagram Story back in February from his lawyer that addressed the allegations saying:

“Seth Clevenger is not taking and has not taken drugs to enhance his running performance. An inquiry was conducted during his time at Iowa State University, during which Seth underwent testing and was cleared of any wrongdoing.”

A few weeks back, Nike invited me to preview their World Cup federation kits (including the U.S. and Canada) and let me just say…they’re very good.

Listen: We’ll see how well the U.S. does at the World Cup, but at least they will look good trying!

I spent most of my weekend consuming racing content after attending an Apple event to kick off the F1 season.

Did anyone else watch the Australian Grand Prix?

I know the drivers were mad about the cars (more on that later), but as an F1 fan, I was captivated the entire time.

Anyways!

Before we discuss F1, we need to get into what’s going on between a Dallas Cowboys star and his fiancé.

Trouble In Paradise

I don’t think it’s a good sign when your fiancé posts a roundup from her bachelorette with a caption that reads: “I truly believe you can get through anything in life as long as you have really great friends. I love these girls so much.”

Star quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott, has been with his fiancé and the mother of his two children, Sarah Jane Ramos, since 2023.

Prescott proposed to Ramos in October of 2024 on a golf course with a ring reportedly worth $1 million and more compressed flowers than I’d like to see, but I’m not surprised to see that at an athlete engagement…

According to TMZ, Prescott and Ramos went on joint bachelor/bachelorette parties to the Bahamas where the pair reportedly got in a “blowup argument” while on the trip.

TMZ was also told that Prescott and Ramos were “rocky for months” sooooo I’ll let you do with that information what you will.

Ramos’ Instagram grid is still full of photos of her and Prescott, so I’ll believe the split is final FINAL when these photos magically disappear.

When Quinn and Jack Hughes came on stage during Connor Storrie’s monologue on Saturday Night Live, the applause felt like the type you give during a wedding speech that went on for far too long.

It’s polite and not too loud. It certainly isn’t generous.

You could tell Hilary Knight and Megan Keller were waiting just off camera, because the quiet chatter from the audience can be heard on television.

When Knight and Keller slid onto each side of Storrie, the applause and cheers were so loud it felt like my television was vibrating in the same way it felt when Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor last night at The Actor Awards.

Obviously, it felt like this was the moment to finally address the elephant in the room:

Keller: “Don’t worry, we saw your show.”

Knight: “It was going to be just us, but we thought we’d invite the guys, too.”

Keller: “Yeah, we thought we’d give them a little moment to shine.”

Storrie: “Yeah, I mean both of your teams just won the gold.”

Quinn Hughes: “The last time the men did that was 46 years ago.”

Knight: “And the last time we did that was two whole Olympics ago.”

Jack Hughes: “But these gold medals aren’t just for us—they’re for all hockey fans. Yours, too.”

The crowd laughed. Knight and Keller smiled. The Hughes brothers grinned through broken teeth.

Was that the men’s hockey team’s way of saying, “See! Everything is fine here! We’re all friends”?

And was this the women’s hockey team’s way of saying, “We’re cool with them”?

Did the women’s hockey team suggest this as a way of clearing the air? Was the reference to when they last won the gold medal (2018 btw) their idea? Probably not.

Listen: It was the right thing to do to bring out representatives of both Olympic teams for the bit, but did anyone really want to be there???

Since the men’s hockey team won gold and laughed at President Trump’s joke, the men’s team has failed to really apologize in any meaningful way and it feels like the women’s team is left cleaning up the mess they made.

Since women’s hockey was introduced as an Olympic sport in the late 90s, only Canada and the United States have won gold.

Canada beat the U.S. 3-2 at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, but the American team is the favorite heading into the game.

When the NBA All-Star Game starts at 5pm ET you know it’s probably not a great sign.

Yes, there was a logical reason for this: Primetime! In! Milan!

Regardless of the Winter Olympics of it all, Adam Silver has some explaining to do.

When the biggest stories from All-Star Weekend are empty (overpriced) seats and whether or not Kevin Durant has a burner account he uses to trash-talk other players, it’s—again—not great!!!

Before I get into it, I want to say: I love the NBA.

I love basketball! I love buzzer beaters! I love seeing celebrities court side!

Despite all of that, I am having a hard time processing the…bad vibes…right now and I know many other NBA fans are, too.

Trust in competitive integrity is eroding, the game-to-game product is deeply flawed, and everybody is sick of the icky omnipresence of the league’s billionaire owners.

The commissioner’s office and the owners got their TV money and they clearly don’t seem to care that much about fan satisfaction (or dissatisfaction), so I’ve started to ask myself: Why should I care about this league anymore? Why should I watch?

There is an air of discontent among fans (me), the media (also me), and even some coaches and players.

At this point, I really do think the NBA needs to hire an Etsy Witch to sort out this mess.

I feel like I need to rant about this, so let’s get right into it.

I’m coming back to life after a whirlwind few days in San Francisco for the Super Bowl.

and I filmed an episode of at Radio Row, which is sort of like the NFL’s equivalent of Comic-Con in San Diego.

That Olympian On The FBI’s Most Wanted List Was Finally Arrested

Ryan Wedding, a Canadian former Olympic snowboarder, turned himself in at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico.

For those who aren’t familiar with the case, Wedding is accused of (among many other things) running a transnational drug cartel operation and ordering the murder of multiple federal witnesses.

He was on the FBI’s Most Wanted List and there was even a $15 million reward for information leading to his arrest.

This whole story reads as a Netflix true crime documentary turned into an HBO miniseries created by Brad Ingelsby (Task and Mare of Easttown) that I can’t get enough of.

One of my favorite things I learned about Wedding is that before he was accused of being a drug kingpin, he worked as a bouncer and tried to become a bodybuilder.

I’m sorry, but all of that tracks and I can’t really explain why.

Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick Both Were Not Selected For This Year’s Pro Football Hall of Fame Class

Uh oh…

The owner of the New England Patriots, Robert Kraft, and their former head coach, Bill Belichick, didn’t receive enough votes to get inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year.

If you know anything about campaigning for awards in the entertainment industry, then you’ll know how important it is to run a good campaign.

Look at Timothée Chalamet! That man is putting in the WORK for that Oscar.

Maybe these men just…assumed they’d get in??? And we know what happens when you assume things.

I’m a terrible dancer, but I’ve tried getting better over the years.

When I lived in London, I took months of adult beginner ballet classes at the Royal Academy of Dance and have continued since moving back to New York.

Did I ever mention the time I took a class with Kelly Ripa on the Upper East Side??? That story is for another newsletter…

Listen: I may have initially signed up for these classes to purchase Yumiko and Bodile leotards (iykyk), but there’s truly no workout more humbling than a ballet class.

That’s why I wasn’t surprised when I became fascinated by UDA (Universal Dance Association) Nationals, the national competition where collegiate dance programs across the country compete in everything from jazz, hip hop, game day routines, pom, and more.

Think of UDA Nationals as the dance world’s Super Bowl.

My FYP became flooded with mesmerizing videos of collegiate dancers spinning in sync.

I watched on repeat as Ohio State University did their jazz routine to Rosalia’s hit ‘Berghain’.

And Louisiana State University wore those iconic denim outfits while dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘sqaubble up’ during their hip hop routine.

There’s so much hype around this competition because these dancers are THAT good.

Ahead of nationals, many of the schools preview the routine for their classmates. What I love most about the preview is that (for the most part) everyone respects that classmateNDA and only films their reactions to the routine, so it can be a surprise for nationals.

Among those charged are several former college basketball players, trainers, and “high stakes gamblers”.

LeBron James Has To Be Retiring Soon…Right?

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has started wearing a special patch to commemorate his 23rd season in the NBA.

Why is he wearing it, you ask?

The answer on paper is that he’s the only player in NBA history to play for 23 seasons.

While that may be true, you cannot tell me that he’s wearing this for funsies.

Wearing essentially a Lifetime Achievement Award on your chest for the remainder of the season can only mean one thing: He’s really gonna retire.

We started talking about Tom Brady’s post-divorce Instagram strategy on around when we theorized that Jordon Hudson was running Bill Belichick’s Instagram account.

At the time, Tom posted a photo of a sunset with The Chicks’ cover of ‘Landslide’ after news broke that his ex, Gisele Bündchen, was having a baby with her jiu jitsu-instructor boyfriend.

It felt like such an intimate look at Brady’s inner thoughts. Almost as if he was reacting in real-time to the news just as the general public was.

Flash forward to the present day and Brady continues to be a very online man.

He’s shared strange AI-generated memes, lengthy EOY recap posts with moody captions, and, of course, photos of him playing football even though he’s retired.

It got us thinking: Given what we know about his relationship with Gisele, his career as a professional football player, and just as a recently divorced guy, how much did his Instagram strategy change after the divorce was finalized?

We go into all of our findings and takeaways in today’s episode of The Sports Gossip Show, which you can watch or listen to, but I wanted to share some of the original content analysis I conducted on his feed for the episode.

Why would I do this?

Well, I did get my master’s degree in sociology from the University of Oxford, where I wrote a 10,000-word thesis on how the top 15 most followed male and female celebrities use Instagram.

For that research, I conducted a content analysis on over 5,000 images and videos and interviewed social media managers for celebrities to understand the extent to which public figures curate their image on Instagram.

While a sample size of one isn’t really the most academically sound, I figured it might be interesting to apply the same methodology and theoretical framework to Tom Brady’s post-divorce Instagram strategy.

An Australian Rules Football Legend Stepped Down—And Stepped Out

I may not understand what Australian rules football is, but I do know that it’s not good when co-captain (and star) of the Brisbane Lions, Lachie Neale, announces that he’s stepping down as co-captain after he allegedly cheated on his wife.

You rarely see this in American sports, but Neale announced his departure in a press conference and addressed the allegations of infidelity:

I am honestly shocked he was so specific with his apology:

“I accept this is a consequence of my actions, and I need to focus on rebuilding that trust with (wife) Jules, as the future wellbeing of our children remain the number one priority.”

To make things more chaotic, Neale may have cheated on his wife…with his wife’s friend. OOOF.

Jules seems to be doing okay. She posted her 2026 vision board and the phrase “Make happiness the priority” is front and center.

I had an unusually busy travel season, as some of you know.

I went to the Galapagos (No, not with Ken Klippenstein), a wellness retreat, and…Florida. All of which was not on my 2025 bingo card!

I’ll be spending the rest of this week working on my 2026 intentions and goals (thank you, ), as well as deep cleaning my apartment.

Gordon Ramsay’s Daughter Married An Olympian

I feel like we’re just days away from the Vogue exclusive spread of photos from Holly Ramsay’s wedding to Olympic swimmer, Adam Peaty.

The pair got married in the UK and Peaty’s estranged mother was allegedly “outraged” and “hurt” that Holly’s famous father, Gordon, mentioned their family feud in his speech.

She was not invited to the wedding nor do I think we’ll be hearing about this feud in Vogue…

Well This Isn’t Good

New England Patriots star Stefon Diggs was arrested on charges of felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery in connection with an incident that occurred earlier this month.

According to TMZ, the incident occurred between Diggs and his former personal chef, who claims the Patriots star “…slapped her and tried to choke her out over a salary dispute.”

Diggs is their star wide receiver and they are doing verrryyy well as they head into the playoffs shortly, so this is not great.

The Patriots released a statement, which, to me, implies they are not going to punish him—for now:

I started this newsletter during the pandemic as a passion project while I oversaw social media strategy for Reese Witherspoon’s production company.

I always loved and played sports, but I never worked in the industry.

The closest I ever came to Sports Media™ was interviewing the stars of an upcoming Paramount movie at a press junket held at the ESPN offices in LA.

Flash forward to this past spring and I found myself sitting on a *sports* panel at the ESPNW Summit.

The idea of Impersonal Foul was born out of my love of sports and pop culture.

In 2020, no one was covering off-the-field storylines in a way that spoke to me, so I figured I’d do it myself on a new platform called Substack.

I posted a Note about this last month, but I cannot keep track of how many new initiatives from media companies or current/former athletes have launched since then that are trying to tap into this mysterious intersection of sports and ______.

I have my own opinions on which of these ventures are actually working and which aren’t, but you can DM me for those thoughts.

My first newsletter went out to 60 people, but I knew in my delusional soul that I had something special—even if the sports world wasn’t quite ready for it yet at the time.

Since then, this community has grown beyond my wildest dreams and I’ve been able to do things I never thought were possible.

14. Received my first troll email.

In this middle of all of this, I also had some personal highlights:

1. Got married.

2. Graduated with a master’s degree from Oxford and wrote a thesis about how celebrities use Instagram.

3. Moved to London, back to California, and finally settled in New York.

4. Started taking adult beginner ballet classes.

An Affair To Remember

Trigger warning for this story.

I was minding my business sorting through the dozens of photos I took of sea lions in my camera roll when I got an alert that the University of Michigan fired head football coach Sherron Moore after he allegedly had an affair with his executive assistant.

The fact that Michigan included the reason for his firing in its statement was pretty surprising, but what came next was just…shocking.

A few hours later, news broke that Moore was arrested for allegedly breaking into the woman’s apartment with whom he was having the affair with, grabbed a knife, threatened to kill himself—and then her.

Moore is now in police custody and TMZ obtained dispatch audio from the apartment incident where a woman (unclear who) claims Moore had been stalking her for months.

To backtrack a bit, Michigan reportedly began investigating claims that the pair were having an affair over the summer; both Moore and the employee denied it.

That story changed yesterday morning, when the employee reportedly came to the university with receipts (texts, emails, etc.) confirming the affair.

Assistant coach Biff Poggi (incredible name) was named the interim head coach for the program while they try to hire someone full-time.

Ironically, this isn’t Poggi’s first time serving as the team’s interim head coach, which must be a painful experience to get The Job and then not being able to keep it—more than once.

There are more unconfirmed reports about the affair circulating Reddit, but I’ll let you look those up on your own.

I’m sure way more information will come out in the coming days and weeks and you know you’ll be hearing from me when it breaks.

Michael Jordan Won His Antitrust Lawsuit Against NASCAR

Do I really understand what it means when it says that Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports reached a settlement with NASCAR?

According to ESPN, the lawsuit accused NASCAR of being a “monopolistic bully”.

Professional golfer Ben Griffin married Dana Myeroff in a “refined tropical luxury”-themed wedding in Palm Beach, Florida.
